Driver escapes injury – I85

Local teens compete in Miss SC Teen Pageant

Two local teens will be among contestants in the Miss South Carolina Teen Pageant next week in Columbia.
Sydney Crawford, a freshman at Wren High and Brooklyn Brewster a 17 year old Senior at Palmetto High and will represent the area.
Brewster is Feature Twirler for the Palmetto Marching Band. She is currently ranked number 10 in her Senior class with GPA of 4.8. She placed in top 10 last year as Miss Anderson County Teen and this year is competing as Miss Greater Greer Teen.

Anderson County Museum celebrates Youth Council

The Anderson County Museum (ACM) celebrated the achievements of the ACM Youth Council on recently with an end-of-school-year Gatsby Party. The Youth Council was organized in 2013 with a mission to plan, organize and volunteer at events their peers would be interested in attending. Allanah York from TL Hanna High School was announced at the party as the Youth Volunteer of the Year for the 2016 – 2017 school year. Saluda River Rally at Dolly Cooper Park

Launching from M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Park in Powdersville and ending at Piedmont Dam or the Timmerman Jr. Kayak Launch Facility in Pelzer, participants enjoyed one of the area’s most underutilized natural resources during the Salua River Rally June 3. The 9 or 15 mile paddle trip included shuttle service from the landing sites back to Dolly Cooper Park. The event also offered camping at Dolly Cooper Park.

One injured – River Road

Wren firefighters responded to a vehicle crash Friday morning (June 2) on River Road in Piedmont. A Honda Accord was traveling north when it ran off the road and flipped over after running into a ditch. Pelzer EMS transported one person to the hospital with minor injuries. Traffic was reduced to one lane while crews were on scene. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. (Photo courtesy Codie Sloan)

Powdersville Apartment Fire

Powdersville, Wren, West Pelzer, and Three and Twenty firefighters responded to an apartment fire at Heritage Trace Apartments off Highway 153 in Powdersville just before 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning, June 1. Pelzer EMS also responded. According to Powdersville Fire Chief the fire was contained to one building and no one was hurt or injured. The fire was in the roof and the roof collapsed. Eight apartments are in the unit that caught fire which remains under investigation. The Red Cross was on scene working with apartment complex management to move residents who were affected by the fire.

No injuries, several vehicles involved – I85 near Hwy. 153

Gantt and Powdersville Fire Departments responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-85 South near Hwy 153. Several vehicles suffered major damage, stopping on the shoulder and the right-hand lane. A black jeep also ran off into a ditch. The right lane was temporarily blocked. Several vehicles involved – I85 & Hwy. 86

The Wren Fire Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash Sunday on I-85 North at Hwy 86. The accident happened around 12:50 pm. A Ford pickup truck was turned on its passenger side against the center wall. There was significant damage to the drivers side of the truck, and other vehicles involved. Left lanes of I-85 North were blocked while crews were on scene. One person was taken to the hospital with injuries by Pelzer EMS. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating. Crawford hosts Pancake breakfast to benefit Children’s Miracle Network

Sydney Crawford, Miss Greenville County Teen 2017, hosted a pancake breakfast April 29 at Sweet P’s in Piedmont to benefit Children’s Miracle Network.
Crawford is a resident of Piedmont and a freshman at Wren High School where she is in all honors classes, on the yearbook staff, a member of the JV Sideline Cheer team and Varsity Competition cheer team.
