Celebrate Anderson to feature Sara Evans

Anderson County’s annual Labor Day celebration, Celebrate Anderson will take place on Sunday, September 3rd.
This year residents and visitors attending the 19th annual Celebrate Anderson will enjoy a free outdoor concert featuring Sara Evans and a patriotic fireworks finale!
For a second year, Celebrate Anderson offers a family fun area filled with activities for children and the young at heart. Celebrate Anderson’s Family Fun area will be free and open to the public on the front lawn of the Civic Center from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
“The best place to be this Labor Day weekend is your hometown,” said Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn.

Local teens compete in Miss SC Teen Pageant

Two local teens will be among contestants in the Miss South Carolina Teen Pageant next week in Columbia.
Sydney Crawford, a freshman at Wren High and Brooklyn Brewster a 17 year old Senior at Palmetto High and will represent the area.
Brewster is Feature Twirler for the Palmetto Marching Band. She is currently ranked number 10 in her Senior class with GPA of 4.8. She placed in top 10 last year as Miss Anderson County Teen and this year is competing as Miss Greater Greer Teen.

Saluda River Rally at Dolly Cooper Park

Launching from M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Park in Powdersville and ending at Piedmont Dam or the Timmerman Jr. Kayak Launch Facility in Pelzer, participants enjoyed one of the area’s most underutilized natural resources during the Salua River Rally June 3. The 9 or 15 mile paddle trip included shuttle service from the landing sites back to Dolly Cooper Park. The event also offered camping at Dolly Cooper Park.

Ribbon cutting held for second ADA kayak launch

On the Saluda – Anderson County held a ribbon cutting Monday, for a second ADA floating kayak launch facility on the Saluda River. The accessible floating kayak launch facility provides an opportunity for all to transfer independently into kayaks beginning their journey down the Saluda River.
The new kayak launch is a $130,000 project funded partly by Anderson County as well as a Duke Energy Water Resources Fund. The Duke Energy Foundation grant provided the majority of funding, Anderson County received $99,508 toward the project.
