Anderson County Public Works Department reported the folowing projects underway around Anderson County:

Animal Shelter

PAWS hired a new Administrative Assistant who began work on 11/28.
Took in 102 animals  (30 owner surrendered, 2 return adoptions, 60 from animal control, 10 stray)
Resolved 124 animal cases  (35 adopted, 9 returned to owner, 32 rescued, 14 fostered, 34 euthanized)
The clinic did 49 surgeries in two days.

Building and Codes

Plan Review Staff Meetings: 1) Met with representative with Bosch regarding current construction of Gas Bottle Storage Area. Bosch will be conducting some specific testing of equipment prior to final inspection. This will be very limited and is part of the overall completion of the addition. 2) Met with Duke Energy Representative to discuss overall completion time frame of the WS Lee Power Plant. Various issues were discussed including Certificate of Occupancy Issuance and how this ties into completion of the required buffer yards. They were instructed to contact Development Standards to coordinate this.

·         PERMITS SUBMITTED: 15 New Single-Family Dwelling and 6 Addition-Renovation; 6 Detached Garage/Accessory Buildings; 3 Pool; 1 Replacement; 6 Demolition; 16 Electrical and HVAC Upgrades; 10 Commercial Including: Taste Buds Up-Fit, Good Spirits Package Store, Humana PIPC renovation in Powdersville, Humana PIPC renovation in Anderson, VA Pharmacy Up-Fit, 2 Electrical for Charter Communication, Dollar General Sign, Electrical for Michelin Sign, Electrical for Meter Can Replacement on Existing Business; 10 Mobile Home including: New Homes, Change of Ownership, moves from other counties, change of location, etc.

·         Met with Development Standards to review plans submitted for new homes in an existing Planned Development (PD) in the Buckland/Rivendell Subdivision

·         PERMITS SUBMITTED: 19 New Single-Family Dwelling and 2 Addition-Renovation; 8 Detached Garage/Accessory Buildings; 3 Pool; 3 Demolition;13 Electrical and HVAC Upgrades; 10 Commercial Including: ARC3 Addition, New Dollar General on Hwy 81, Electrical for Gate.

Building and Codes

·         Met with Development Standards to review plans that were submitted for new homes in a PD (Planned Development) Subdivision. 4 house plans submitted for Midway Ridge were approved for permitting. 7 house plans that were submitted for Sullivan Hills were rejected and are required to be revised and resubmitted for approval.

Anderson County Public Works Department reported projects underway across the county including the following in the Powdersville area: New Industrial Building Expansion on Cooper Lane & Corporate Drive, proposed Townhomes located on the corner of Old Pendleton Road/Brushy Creek Road, Easley, a proposed Solar Farm located on Highway 8 & Ballard Road and Highway 86, Piedmont and work at Richey Place Subdivision located on Three Bridges Road.

·         Applicable staff met with Economic Development, along with other County Departments, to discuss future site development for property located off Hwy 85 and Hwy 86. 

·         PERMITS SUBMITTED: 13 New Single-Family Dwelling and 2 Addition-Renovation; 2 Detached Garage/Accessory Buildings; 12 Electrical and HVAC Upgrades; 2 Swimming Pools; 3 Demolition; 7 Commercial

·         DRAWINGS SUBMITTED: Remodel to Claude Drive Quade-Plex, Kanpai of Tokyo Up-Fit located off Hwy 153, Mighty Dollar Up-Fit located off Hwy 28, Oakview Park Assisted Living located off Hood Road in Powdersville, Scott Ward Up-Fit located in Pendleton, Sun Gro Electrical Service for Diesel Pump, Super Shop Addition located off Hwy 76, Tire Pro located off Hwy 29 North, Electrical for WS Lee Combined Cycle and various resubmittals

· PERMITS SUBMITTED: 25 New Single-Family Dwelling Issued and 10 Addition-Renovation; 9 Multi-Family Dwelling issued. Anderson VA Clinic Up-Fit, Powdersville Heartland Dental, Belton Skating Rink Up-Fit, Charter Communications Up-fit, Standing Stone Retail Up-Fit, Sign for Liberty Baptist Church; 20 Mobile Homes including: New Homes, Change of Ownership, moves from other counties, change of location, etc.

· DRAWINGS SUBMITTED: IBC Recycling 7,500 sf Expansion off Hampton Rd in Williamston, and various resubmittals

The following are projects currently underway around Anderson County by the Anderson County Public Works Department:

Solid Waste

· Shred Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 18 at Anderson School District 1 located at 801 N. Hamilton St. and at the Civic Center of Anderson located at 3207 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Residents can bring their paper for free shredding from 10am until 1pm.

· Environmental Enforcement is investigating another illegal tire dump at the Dolly Cooper Park. Individuals dumped 35 used tires at the park. Solid Waste staff cleaned up the tires and took them to the Anderson Regional MRF to be recycled.

· Staff delivered 300 “Throw This Instead of Litter” beach balls to the Anderson County Museum for the Wren Middle School students that are visiting the Museum this week. The beach balls were sponsored by Waste Connections and the Anderson County Solid Waste Department.

 UPCOMING MEETINGS:
Received land use permit application for “Project Upstate”, a proposed 1,567,839 square foot beverage warehouse and distribution facility. This proposed facility will constitute a large scale project and will require approval of the Planning Commission. The property is located off Highway 86 and Old Williamston Road. This application will be heard at the Planning Commission Meeting scheduled for March 10, 2015.
· Received two (2) variance requests;
§ 1. Budweiser Plant located on S. Carolina in Piedmont located to allow for a directional sign to be included with the free standing sign and also a request for;
§ 2. Private property owner requesting a variance for reduction of side yard setbacks for a bedroom addition. The property is located on New Hope Road, Anderson. Both requests will be heard by the Land Use Board of Zoning Appeals at their March 13, 2015.
· COMPLIANCE ISSUES:
§ Illegal signs removed from Highway 81N.
· PLAN REVIEW:
§ Piedmont Wastewater Treatment Plant, demolition and site stabilization located in Powdersville.
§ New Spring Church, 64,500 square feet Powdersville Campus
· LAND USE PERMITS ISSUED:
§ Carmichael Latham Dock Addition and Parking Lot Improvements located on Prosperity Blvd. Piedmont.
· SUBDIVISIONS:
§ Avendell, Phase II, Floodplain Development for lots 203- Surveyor has revised the plat to include base flood elevation data.
§ Buckland/Rivendell, Lot #83, received approval by both Architectural Committee to issue residential compliance.
· COMPLIANCE ISSUES:
§ Illegal signage removed in the Slabtown area, Highway 88 and Highway 8.
