Former School Board Member struck by car

A seventy six year old man was struck and killed by a sixteen year old Tuesday morning. The accident happened on Highway 17 near Shiloh Road. Pelzer EMS and Wren firefighters responded to the call. Troopers are investigating the incident.

A former Anderson District One School Board member, James Givens Carpenter was struck by a vehicle and killed early Tuesday morning, as he crossed Hwy. 17 in the Wren area. According to Deputy Coroner Don McKown, Carpenter died at the scene of multiple traumatic injuries.

A 2001 Toyota Celica, driven by Claude Austin Juster, a sixteen year old student at Wren High School, struck Carpenter as he crossed the road to speak to a neighbor. Juster was on his way to school at the time of the accident.

I85 truck wreck

Firefighters work at the scene of an accident on I-85 involving two 19-wheeler tractor trailers (Tuesday. Aug. 30). The SC Highway Patrol investigated. No one was seriously injured and the accident blocked traffic on the interstate for several hours.

Wren Junior killed in crash

James Robert Tharp, 17, a Junior at Wren High, was fatally injured in a single vehicle accident on Wren School Road Friday afternoon. Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said Tharp had diabetes, which may have been a contributing factor in the wreck which happend less than a mile from the high school. Wren Fire Department and SC Highway Patrol responded to the accident.

Truck strikes vehicle, leaves scene – Piercetown

Piercetown firefighters put down absorbent after a pickup truck struck another vehicle. The truck struck a vehicle at the intersection of Highway 88 and Wilderness Trail. Tree down – Old Mill Road

High speed chase, shots fired – Hwy. 8 & I85

A game warden and state trooper help establish a perimeter Friday night after a high speed chase ended nearby. A state trooper attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 8 and I-85 when the vehicle sped away and onto I-85 north. Near the Anderson – Greenville county line shots were fired from the vehicle being pursued. Again shots rang out at the 42 mile marker in Greenville county. The vehicle exited off onto Maudlin Road, sped through a neighborhood, and back onto I-85 north. The vehicle exited off onto Laurens Road, turned onto Dallas Road and wrecked where the driver and passenger fled on foot. A search involving multiple agencies was called off early Saturday morning. Driver arrested after two wrecks – Old River Road

Powdersville firefighters gather information after an accident on Old Piedmont Road Monday night. An SUV allegedly struck a vehicle on I-85 north before exiting the interstate pulling behind a gas station at I-85 and River Road. An alert driver followed the vehicle there. The suspect sat there a few minutes then drove away on Old Piedmont Road before wrecking again. He ran off the road, into a ditch, overturned and came back to rest on the wheels. The driver attempted to leave again but found himself blocked in. He got out and attempted to leave on foot when he was apprehended by a state trooper. Hyw. 88 fatality

Melvin Howe Jr., 62, of Pendleton was fatally injured in a single vehicle accident around 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon. The accident happened about eight miles south of Liberty on SC Hwy. 88 near Baugh Road. in Anderson County. According to reports, Howe was heading home from the Veterans Affairs Clinic in Greenville when the accident happened.

According to SC Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Gary Miller, Howe’s SUV was traveling west on SC Hwy 88 when it went off the left side of the troad and struck a tree. Howe was not wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anderson County Coroner Gerg Shore said an autopsy may be performed to determine if nedical factors contributed to the accident.  According to Shore, Howe had heart disease, lung disease and diabetes.

Walker-McElmoyle Fire Department and Three and Twenty Fire Department along with Pelzer EMS responded.

Pedestrian Fatal Hit and Run – Hwy. 86

Troopers make arrest

Jason-YearginSouth Carolina Highway Patrol troopers have arrested Jason Yeargin, 33, of Piedmont, in connection with a fatal hit and run on Hwy. 86 Tuesday night. According to reports, the man who was fatally injured was walking east along SR 86 when he was hit by Yeargin’s Ford F250 pickup. The pickup truck , which was headed in the same direction as the pedestrain, hit the man and then a fence. After the incident, Yeargin left the scene, according to Cpl. Bill Rhyne. The victim’s name had not been released at presstime Wednesday morning.
